Reduce, reuse, recycle! The C-U March for Science is aiming for high visibility and minimal waste. Here are some tips for keeping things resource-wise!
BYOBeverage container: Plastic bottles and disposable cups create litter, deluge landfills, and can end up in our waterways where they pose a hazard to wildlife. Bring a reusable container, and support our local businesses by stopping by one of Champaign's coffee shops for a drink! Learn more about being waste-free for lunches and portable meals.
Pack it in/Pack it out! In order to minimize our impact on the Orpheum and surrounding march route, let's treat it like a campsite and leave no trace. Whatever you bring with you, try to bring it back home for recycling or proper disposal. We will have waste receptacles onsite, but the less waste we make, the better! Use Earth-friendly paints and markers: Use nontoxic paints and markers for your signs whenever possible. Avoid oil-based paints and any products that require paint thinners or acetone. A rule of thumb: if the product label has the signal words "warning" or "danger," don't use it. Look for art and sign-making supplies that are labeled "AP Nontoxic" or "Nontoxic: Conforms With ASTM D-4236." These standards ensure the products have been tested for toxicity.
